This is me in a Nutshell
  • Since I was very young, I always wanted to help people and have a positive impact on our planet.
  • In college, I first studied Architecture at UT Austin so I could help others with affordable, sustainable design.
  • I got bad IBS while in Architecture school and also decided architecture wasn’t for me… right before it was time to graduate.
  • After graduating with my architecture degree, I wanted to follow my passion for health.
  • I became a personal trainer and applied to graduate school for Health Behavior and Health Education (now I wanted to help people with their health and fight the obesity epidemic).
  • I still had IBS throughout graduate school and I kept studying nutrition and holistic remedies on the side.
  • I got Certified in Precision Nutrition, but still couldn’t find the answers I needed.
  • I found functional medicine and FOUND my answers to reverse IBS
  • I became so passionate about functional medicine, I mentored under Dr. Dan Kalish and became certified in the Kalish Method of Functional Medicine.
  • Now I help OTHER people reverse IBS and feel great in other aspects of their health.
  • That makes both me AND my clients very happy

If you want to know more about my IBS journey, then here it is!

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for all the SUFFERING I endured for so long and ENDLESS failures to find relief. Countless trips to my general practitioner and gastroenterologist never resulted in relief. I finally reached a point where I thought that maybe I was just supposed to live my life with horrible IBS symptoms.

Andrew Sartory, M.Ed

My IBS symptoms started slowly… at first.

For as long as I can remember, it felt like I took more frequent trips to the bathroom than most people. But I never really thought anything of it. I exercised, looked fine and I thought I ate well. Nothing to worry about! However, as I got older and was in Architecture school, the minor inconveniences turned into massive problems.

I remember how frustrating it was to have all of these symptoms and to have no idea why. They were ALL over the place and I never knew what kind of day I was going to have.

The gas…

I’d get embarrassed after others chuckled to each other and asked… “Oh god, was that you?” Or even worse, when a friend would actually point at me! I feared meeting guys for dates and getting intimate because I just didn’t know how bloated or gassy I’d be that night.

I even dated one guy and had to LEAVE THE ROOM every time I had to let one go because he really hated the smells (and I couldn’t blame him). And after that relationship, I was afraid I would never meet a guy that would be accepting of me and my gas.

EVERYDAY I had to make an AWFUL decision, many times. There were 3 options.

Hold in my gas and suffer through the pain
Let it out and risk offending clients, friends or classmates, while embarrassing myself.
Stop what I’m doing and go outside or to the bathroom for the 10th time to let it out in private and find temporary relief.

The bloating…

My waist was much bigger than I thought it should be, my stomach was puffy and had a hardness to it (but not a six pack hardness).

It was painful to sit down sometimes. Not because my legs were sore, but because it seemed to really compress my bloated stomach and make it feel worse. I remember sitting down at the conference table and thinking “Damn, I guess I’m gonna be REALLY uncomfortable the next few hours.”

Sometimes it got SO bad at night, that I’d run to bed early in hopes that the pain and discomfort would be gone when I woke up.

The constipation…

I felt like I could never completely empty everything out. That nice relief of having an “empty tank” always escaped me. Many times I thought I had to go, but it just wouldn’t come! I was so sick and tired of failed trips to the bathroom. I had to push hard and strain to “get it out”, which I have since learned is not normal.

You know those horror stories you hear about people pooping out their intestines? No, that luckily never happened to me, but it was always something I secretly feared!

And the diarrhea…

Most people tend towards either constipation or diarrhea, but I swear, I had constipation weeks and diarrhea weeks! I probably found myself sitting on the toilet anywhere from 5-10 times on the average day, and over 20 on my worst days. Imodium had stopped working and I was afraid my body wasn’t absorbing much nutrients (which it wasn’t).

And before I left the house, I ALWAYS went to sit on the toilet, “just in case.” And I feared being in a public place for more than several hours at a time if I wasn’t going to have access to a toilet.

No matter how bad my symptoms got, the doctors just claimed “IBS”

I feared being without my IBS prescription Bentyl (that only worked SOMETIMES), immodium, Tums, and Pepto Bismol… I tried them all. Nothing really worked and I thought maybe I was just going to have to suffer with it forever. If the doctors couldn’t help me, who could?

I even tried acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments, but NOTHING was helping. Eventually, my IBS discomfort turned into real sickness. Before I knew it, I lost 20 pounds over 4 weeks and had a fever that just wouldn’t go away. STILL, all the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with me after running several tests.

I was SCARED and MAD. I thought I’d feel awful for the rest of my life. No one had any answers.

But then, one test changed my life.

Finally, a very unique chiropractor wanted to run a food sensitivity test on me. I was desperate for answers, so I did. We found several foods that my body was reacting to and when I eliminated them, it was the FIRST time I saw ANY relief in years!

But even with that, I still had IBS symptoms and dealt with them for several more years. But after seeing some relief and SOME answers from that one test, I knew I could CONQUER irritable bowel syndrome.

I KNEW I could find other answers.

Functional medicine was the answer.

After reading more of the latest ground breaking books in the health field, I learned about functional medicine. It gets to the ROOT CAUSE of symptoms. And when I followed one of the diets outlined in the book, I saw even MORE relief!

However, I still had a long way to go with my own symptoms and hadn’t tried any of the lab testing. BUT, this holistic approach lit a passion in me like nothing else ever had!

I became so passionate, that I decided I wanted that to be my career. I desperately wanted my personal training clients AND family members to benefit from this amazing work AND I wanted to share it with as many people as I could.

I finally found Dr. Dan Kalish’s mentorship program after hearing stories that seemed too good to be true. Once I went through his process of tests, my IBS finally went away FOR GOOD. It was MIRACULOUS.

And now I help other people reverse THEIR gut-wrenching symptoms of IBS.

Now I am able to apply the knowledge I’ve learned over the last five years to help OTHER people reverse their IBS and feel better than they have in YEARS. And the best part is that they see results 10 times faster than I did myself, because now I know how to SKIP the guess work!

I simply couldn’t dream of a more rewarding job. When someone asked me what I’d do for the rest of my life if money was no object, I knew that I found my calling.

My answer was, “Empower people to take control of their health so they can feel GOOD and healthy for their rest of their lives.”
